24th annual International Society of Franchising (ISoF) Conference

The 24th annual International Society of Franchising (ISoF) Conference was held at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia on 7-9 June 2010. Itwas an opportunity for 58 colleagues to come together from around the globe and share several days of scholarly exchange and professional camaraderie.  The ISoF has members from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

23 research papers were presented. This represents the following submissions:  Austria—two, Australia—eight, France—one, Germany—one, the Netherlands—one, the United Kingdom—one; and, the United States—eight.  Additionally, one paper was submitted from researchers from more than one country, i.e. France/United States. 

Lola Dada, Lancaster University (UK), and Anna Watson, University of the Arts London (UK),  received the 2010 ISoF Best Paper Award, sponsored by the Journal of Marketing Channels, for their paper, “Entrepreneurial Orientation and The Franchise System: Organisational Antecedents and Performance Outcomes.”

Hyo-Jin (Jean) Jeon, the University of Oklahoma (USA), received the ISoF Best Student Paper Award for “Correlates of Successful Franchise Performance,” which was co-authored by colleagues Rajiv P. Dant, the University of Oklahoma and Brent L. Baker, University of North Dakota (USA).

 Lorelle Frazer, Ph.D., Director, AsiaPacific Centre for Franchising Excellence and Professor in Marketing, Griffith University (Logan Campus), Griffin Business School, Brisbane, QLD, Australia  served as the 2010 ISoF program chair and proceedings editor.  Jenny Buchan, Lecturer, University of New South Wales, School of Business Law and Taxation, Faculty of Commerce and Economics, Kensington, Australia, and Liz Spencer, Assistant Professor of Law, Faculty of Law, Bond University, Gold Coast QLD, Australia were conference co-chairs.
