The AUS-ACCESS4EU project was launched in November 2010 at a series of three highly successful Information Days staged in London, Paris and Bonn. Targeted at scientific research managers, administrators and policy makers, the Information Days attracted  significant interest and were attended by more than 120 key players from the European  research community.

The events presented an excellent opportunity for participants to find out more about current opportunities for European-Australian research collaboration through Australian-funded research funding schemes. The relatively recent opening up of the major Australian Research Council’s National Competitive Grants Programme and the CSIRO Flagship Fund initiatives means that there are now greater opportunities for European researchers to participate in Australian research programmes.

Keynote speakers included Simon Sedgley from the Australian Research Council (ARC), Professor Roy Goldie from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and Paul Harris from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) - who explained the funding opportunities available to EU researchers. Researchers from the UK, France and Germany who have participated in European-Australian research projects offered their own unique perspective on the experience.

Other themes covered included: A snapshot of the Australian research and innovations system: policy, strengths and international links and Enhancing openness and reciprocity in international research cooperation.
